Yuletide Day 4
At Saints & Scholars, our Irish whiskey list has grown to well over 130 bottles. We have the classic names, newer distilleries, single casks, and the odd treasure that only shows up once. Some of these come from tiny producers in Ireland that are not easy to get into the States right now; some of the distilleries are even shuttered, and we are pouring whatever remaining stock could be found. When something interesting appears, we grab what we can.
Over the past few years, Irish distilleries have become incredibly innovative. We have Teeling to thank for a lot of that. They broke the mold and created real momentum for others to experiment. Now you will find whiskey aging in unique casks and rare woods, built on uncommon mash bills (such as 100% rye), and shaped through partnerships with wineries and breweries all over the world, like the Jameson & Bale Breaker collaboration. All of this is quietly revolutionizing the Irish whiskey scene. Scotch and bourbon are still in the lead when it comes to whiskey sales and common knowledge, but Irish whiskey is steadily growing in popularity. It is not the same basic whiskey it once was. Jameson led the way with marketing and bringing Irish whiskey to our attention, but it is not the only or the best Irish whiskey out there (in my honest opinion).
This is why we enjoy building little adventures around our whiskies: to have you explore what is out there and try something new. Bushmills is a wonderful old single malt whiskey, Redbreast remains peak for pot stills, and smaller, lesser-known brands like Writer’s Tears, Dingle, and Drumshanbo are also pretty stellar. I could go on and on about our whiskeys and am always happy to chat with you about them at the pub. For now, let’s get to the fun part for you…
For the past two years, we have run the 12 Irish Whiskeys of Christmas. Guests would try 12 different Irish whiskeys, either of their choice or from a curated list. Once their card was complete, they were rewarded at the end. This year, that tradition has turned into Progressive Whiskey Bingo, with perks along the way instead of only one big finish.
It’s simple, and full details can be found here: Progressive Whiskey Bingo. To summarize, ask a bartender or server to start your card. Each card has 12 specific Irish whiskeys from our back bar and 4 wildcard squares, for a total of 16. Whenever you order one of those whiskeys, a staff member stamps that square for you. Different patterns on the card unlock different rewards.
Today, we are adding a little extra to that experience…
✨Yuletide Day 4: The Holiday Double✨
Whether you are just starting your bingo card today or already partway through, you can order any whiskey that appears on your card and make it a double for the price of a single! (Not valid for choice squares; specifically named whiskeys only.)
Simply mention the “Holiday Double” to your server or bartender when you order.
FYI - We now also have a Reserve List for guests who want to explore some of the rarer and higher end Irish whiskeys we have brought in (Midleton being one of them). Between the main list, the reserve bottles, Friday Night Flights & Bites, Wilde Whiskey Wednesdays (25% off an Irish whiskey of choice on the 3rd Wednesday of every month), and your bingo card, there are plenty of options to discover something new. Sláinte!
