Yuletide Day 15

✨ Happy December 15th! ✨

We love this time of year, when kindness feels a little easier and small joys seem to shine a little brighter. Throughout December, we will send a daily Yuletide surprise straight to your inbox or by text. We are keeping these off social media this year so they remain special for those of you who have chosen to be on this list. Thank you for letting us be a small part of your December.

Here is to a beautiful December filled with good company and good cheer. Sláinte.

✨Tiny Tadhg’s continued adventures✨

A Light Recap of Tiny Tadhg’s Week
Tiny Tadhg has had a fairly mellow week by his standards, but that does not mean he has been idle.

He started off by joining the coloring contest in the most earnest way possible. We found him stretched out by the fire with crayons nearby, quietly working on his own page while keeping an eye on the kids’ entries. He is completely taken with how many have already been turned in, and I have to admit, seeing them all hung up in the Hall of Kells is pretty delightful.

At some point he decided it was time for calisthenics. We found him holding himself up inside one of the globe lights above a table, arms out like he was testing whether gravity behaves the same way here as it does at the North Pole. He looked very pleased with himself.

He also managed to catch a ride with Snoop Dogg as he passed over the bar promoting his gin, which is a sentence I never expected to write. We are all hoping Tiny Tadhg did not pick up any new habits from that encounter.

Later, he attempted to ride one of our globe ornaments like a bull, because apparently we are doing rodeo now. I am fairly sure he was having a bit of fun with me after hearing I am from Wyoming.

And last night he took a front-row seat on the cocoa cart, watching the little ones light up as the mugs filled up one by one. There were so many cocoas made for kids and adults alike that Tiny Tadhg could barely sit still, which is saying something for a little guy who usually prefers quiet observation.

📮 Letters to Santa Begin!

After a week of watching crayons, cocoa, and small acts of kindness unfold, Tiny Tadhg has decided it is time to begin what he considers very serious work.

Letters to Santa officially begin this week. We have put together little Letters to Santa kits for any child who wants one. All they have to do is ask, and they can take it home to write and color at their own pace. (limited supply available)

If they would like to leave their finished letter with Tiny Tadhg, he promises safe and direct delivery to Santa himself. He has also made it very clear that these letters are not to be rushed! He takes this assignment to heart.

As a reminder, Tiny Tadhg will be with us through Christmas Eve, which means this is the final full week of his visit. He seems determined to fit in as much as possible, and we are doing our best to keep up!

🏆 Last Week’s Riddle Winner

Tiny Tadhg has been tapping his tiny foot rather pointedly, so it is time to apologize for being a few days late announcing last week’s riddle winners. He assures me this delay has been noted in his very official notebook, though he has generously agreed not to escalate the matter further.

Thank you to everyone who took part in last week’s riddle. There were some excellent guesses, and a few landed on Epiphany or January 6, which is indeed the date tied to the riddle. However, Tiny Tadhg was specifically looking for the Irish tradition celebrated on that day. Here is the riddle once more:

There are tales of travelers wise,
Who followed a star through winter skies,
But back in Ireland on this same night,
The women claim their own delight.
The kettle sings, the cups clink fast,
The lads mind house and chores at last.
With feet put up and day well-won,
What day is theirs when Christmas is done?

The correct answer was Nollaig na mBan (pronounced NOL-ig nah MAWN), also known as Women’s Christmas.

Congratulations to Michele L. and Mick A., who both correctly identified the tradition. Each of you has won a $25 gift card to Saints & Scholars! Please stop by the pub and see the bartender to collect your prize.

Tiny Tadhg says well done!

🎄 What Is Nollaig na mBan

In Ireland, Nollaig na mBan marks the close of the Christmas season. Traditionally, it is a day when women rest and celebrate together after the work of the holidays, while the men take over the household duties. It is a joyful tradition centered on appreciation, good company, and a well earned pause.

To celebrate Women’s Christmas, we will be hosting our Annual Women’s Christmas Afternoon Tea on Sunday January 4. Check out the details and make your reservation here: https://www.saintsandscholars.com/events/christmastea26

✨Tiny Tadhg’s Week 3 Riddle

Stretched between a garden green
And halls where ancient books convene.
No wheels pass through my stone laid way,
Yet strangers pause along my way.
At Christmastime my lights shine bright,
And buskers warm the winter night.
Where poets passed and music stays,
What street is this that crowds still praise?
