ABOUT
DRUMSHANBO
Home to an Extraordinary Irish Gin Brand
You’ll find The Shed Distillery in rural Ireland, on the edge of a lake in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim. The setting was central to PJ Rigney’s vision. It needed to feel wild, untamed, and rooted in the heart of Ireland’s countryside. Surrounded by nature and steeped in history, the distillery sits near the shores of Lough Allen and the foothills of Sliabh an Iarainn, known as the Iron Mountain. Here, PJ created a home for his curious spirit, a place where global inspiration meets Irish landscape and tradition.
Where the Curious Journey Began ...
Curiosity is at the heart of The Shed Distillery, founded in 2014 by PJ Rigney and his wife Denise in the village of Drumshanbo in County Leitrim, Ireland. Drawn to the wild beauty of western Ireland, PJ established the first distillery in the region in over a century, building a home for spirits shaped by both Irish heritage and global discovery.
After decades traveling through Asia, Africa, and beyond, PJ gathered inspiration from unique botanicals and traditional distilling methods. That journey led to Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, crafted with 12 botanicals including Chinese gunpowder green tea and locally foraged Irish meadowsweet. Building on that foundation, the range now includes expressions such as Sardinian Citrus, California Orange Citrus, Brazilian Pineapple, and Italian Fig and Laurel, each inspired by PJ’s travels while remaining rooted in Irish distilling tradition.
Honoring Ireland’s own heritage, The Shed also produces Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. Distilled in copper pot stills using Irish barley and oats, then matured in Bourbon and Sherry casks, the whiskey portfolio continues to evolve with special releases including the Galánta 2023 release and a Pinot Noir Cask expression, showcasing additional layers of depth, fruit, and complexity.
Completing the collection is Drumshanbo Sausage Tree Irish Vodka, inspired by PJ’s travels to Africa and the Kigelia africana, or Sausage Tree. Distilled with Irish grain spirit and infused with both Sausage Tree fruit and Irish nettle, it is exceptionally pure and refined, with a subtle botanical character that distinguishes it from traditional vodka.
